About Melanie

I love stories in all the ways humanity has found to express them ā€“ literature, films, dance, music, and visual arts. Ideas and stories are the only thing humans can make from nothing, with no raw materials.

In creating stories, I believe we echo our Creator who chose to reveal himself to us largely through stories of his interactions with people, found in the Bible.

In fiction, I particularly enjoy exploring and crossing the boundary between reality and imagination.

I write my stories in Essex near Epping Forest, where I walk as often as possible, preferring trees and birds to streets and buildings. I also love all things oceanic, hence the mermaid tales. Iā€™m slightly envious of both my daughters who live on the coast at opposite ends of the UK: in Dorset and the Isle of Skye. Our family loves to be in or on the water, recently venturing into snorkelling and paddleboarding.

My background is in teaching but I currently spend my working life either wrestling with numbers or delighting in words: bookkeeping for a family business and writing for pleasure and publication.
